    Elective Placement - GEP?

    Quick question:
    - The 8-week elective placement in Stage 4, is it done in the GEP as well? And if so, is it in the 3rd or 4th year?

    Cheers!

It's done in the GEP as well. You're only actually a separate entity for the first year of the GEP, then you just join with the five-years who started the year before you. So years 2 to 4 are just the normal course years 3 to 5 (so the elective is at the end of your 3rd year).
    2010 Entry:
Newcastle GEP - one year down, three to go!

    UKCAT - 692.5 average
    Degree: 1st in Biomedical Science

    Cheers,
It was what I thought, but as I know the first SSC (stage 1) is cancelled in GEP, just wanted to make sure in case it gets brought up in interview

It's pushing it to call the "SSC" in stage 1 an SSC! It's really just an essay you have slightly more control over!

Elective is the Summer of the 4th year of medical school (which as a graduate is actually your 3rd year...)

Excluding the God awful Xmas exams, this year is by far the best. You basically dictate the timetable for the Spring and Summer term followed by the elective to wherever you want to go/can afford to go to

I believe that they are changing the rules slightly about how many 'centres' you can visit. Currently you can go to two (so, great for people who want to save some cash and the first half in the UK; great also for people who just want to see two contrasting settings). I think from next year (or this possibly) they will dictate that students must undertake their entire elective in a single centre, which is quite a smack in the face to a lot of folk....As always, there may be wiggle room depending on individual circumstances, but don't count on it.
