    GEP Open Day

Hey, just wondering whether anyone could offer any insight into whether it was worth going to the open day for those who've got an offer. I already firmed Newcastle, so don't need to go to help me decide, but just wondered if I'd be missing out on anything important by not going?

I obviously haven't got any experience with Newcastle's open days, but I used to be part of the organising team for the Open Days at my college in Durham as I was on the Exec, so hopefully I can provide a little insight. We primarily used the Open Days as a means to convince prospective students to accept their offers! The only thing that people "missed out" on was a great time! I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle did the same - if there was anything important, then attendance would be compulsory. I'd still go along if I were you, just to have a good time and meet your future classmates, but apart from that don't worry too much.

On an unrelated note... Newcastle are being REALLY irritating. I emailed them to find out why I haven't heard anything, and they just said "applications are still under consideration". Bloody liars... it's so obvious that they've made all their GEP offers already, they're clearly not considering anyone else, why can't they just be a man and tell me! Instead they've got me sitting around for another couple of weeks before being 100% sure. Damn it

Hi Amy! I also have an offer and am pretty much certain to accept it, but I'll be heading up for the open day anyway. I have a friend on the first year of the course and she said it was really nice to get a chance to meet tutors and fellow students before starting in September. I think it might also be useful re. sorting out somewhere to live next year. Last year I think they set up a fbook group after and got into groups for living in houses, but might be nice to meet people in the flesh before deciding to live with them!

I want my 'official' rejection too! Maybe I'll try a slightly different tactic and ask for feedback about why I wasn't accepted and see what happens...

Yeah, I was thinking it might be good to meet people, but I'm still just weighing up whether it will be worth the hassle and expense or not...Don't need to sort out housing with anyone because me and my partner are hoping to buy up there or will at least be renting together, so not got the worry of having to pick anyone to live with - I can just bugger off and not have to see you all at the end of the day!

I'm in the same boat. Please just tell me I've been rejected and put an end to my uncertainty!

Well, I bit the bullet and forked out the train fare - nice early 6:30am start for me, so I guess I'll see you all up there (although I warn you now I may be a bit grouchy!!)

Yey! I finally got my rejection from Newcastle for the GEP course. I still can't understand why it's taken this long to put me out of my misery??

It would be nice to hear if anyone receives an offer for the course either today, or before the end of March, just so I know that the thin veil of hope I was holding onto was not totally in vein: that it wasn't just some sick ploy by Newcastle Uni. to demoralise those of us still clinging to a few remaining shreds of possibility.

Anyway, I'll be going to Manchester in September. Although it will take me an extra year, I can't say I'm too dissapointed with at least getting in somewhere (although I wish I could get my hands on the DoH's money - damn it!). Now I guess begins the clusterf**k do find some way of funding me through the next 4 years.

Well done everyone you got an offer. I really hope that you all feel a sense of priviliage and good fortune for making it onto the course. I guess I'll soon find out just how lucky you've all been.
