Hi!
I am new on the forum, but I am on the course too, hope to meet you all in April. Do you think you guys will be looking at halls or private accomodation? (lol I know this is very far ahead, just getting a bit excited! The running around the room screaming was a feature for me too...

Congratulations to all of you with offers; it's a REALLY great course!
My advice - no preparatory reading. Make the most of your time off this summer, because you'll hit the ground running once you start... Much better to get there feeling refreshed, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!
As for accomodation - it's probably wise to organise house-shares when you meet up for the open day in April. Being with much younger students in halls is probably going to be incompatible with the sort of work load you're going to be faced with. And you'll just get jealous when they're out partying all of the time!!
I remember doing a LOT of screaming too ;-) xxLouise

Hello and congratulations to all of you with offers!
I will be applying to both the accelerated and 5 year programmes at Newcastle and would like some advice on what kinds of work experience you undertook?
Also what score you achieved on your UKCAT and the conditions of your offers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!BSc Biomedical Sciences (2011) 1st

i did bits of work experience (hospital, GP, consultant) but mainly it was about my job as an HCA. i would recommend making it a priority. do whatever you can to get on the books of a hospital and start from there. personally, i think this is the best work experience, both in terms of your own personal development and also a positive impression on your personal statement and in interview. getting your hands dirty, literally, is the way forward.

I'd echo maverick - most of my interview was taken up talking about my job as an HCA, so I'd definitely say that was a priority.
UKCAT changes every year, but I think it was about 690ish this year and the lowest it goes to for the 4-year is about 670ish, depending how many people take it and how they do. Basically I wouldn't bother applying unless you top this, because they interview purely on this.2010 Entry:
