This was either for 2007 or 2008 entry, not sure which:
Applied: 2992
Interview: 795
Offers: 605
Accepted: 381
Places: 327 (Newcastle and Durham combined, not sure if the figures above were combined or Newcastle alone)
76% of interviewees offered a place.
A friend gave me these figures a couple of weeks ago. They're from one of the "Getting into Medical School" guides, for 2007 or 2008 entry.
Hope that helps!

wow so it is really good odds after interview..
p.s. my insiders guide to medschool says 540 interviews for 327 places which i thought was a really low number of interviews

Either way, it's still pretty good odds compared to some other places!

I don't get those stats. They may well be true, but if they are, just how many applicants are applying without having met the minimum requirements of the course?
The cut off last year was ~620 on the UKCAT. The policy should have put off a lot of people, and the AAA requirements some more. So how many people are applying to newcastle having not bothered to inform themselves of the admissions requirements before doing so?
If your UKCAT was average(~600), and your predicted grades AAB, you would have been justiified in your application, even though you would've been rejected, but surely this can not apply to 2200 of the 3000 applicants?
I just don't get it. Their criteria is very easy to interpret, and they give interviews to everybody that meets it.

It's not like that, Newcastle give interviews to the people with the top 1000 UKCAT scores and who meet the academic criteria.

Its not just about the ukcat.. they dont give interviews to ALL people who meet the criteris, if their ucas form (ie ps, ref) is gash they they wont invite them for interview.. and with regards to how 'far down the scores they go' i they see 500 'upper-end' ukcat applicants and they dont like them. they get further down... so all doesnt depend on the ukcat... and like its been said on here they interview till march so dont go worrying yet... just concentrate on getting ur a-levels/degree or whatever
but still... fingers crossed for everyone
