UKCAT Weighting for A106 (Undergraduate)
I've just done my UKCAT and come out the far end with an average of about 650 per module in it. Having written to Newcastle directly, asking what, historically, the cut-off has been for their UKCAT, which looks to be a fairly huge decider in whether you get an offer or not, judging by the admissions policy.
In response to my email, they replied thusly; "As you know, all applicants are required to complete the UKCAT aptitude test. More information is available at UKCAT home.
We look at the UKCAT after the application has passed the Academic Screen. The Medical School determine a cut off score dependent on the scores achieved by all applicants in that year group. Those achieving the cut off score will be invited to interview. Once an applicant has been invited for interview, the UKCAT plays no further part in the admissions process. The cut off score will be made on the total scores from all sections - no section is given precedence.
Newcastle University does not normally disclose the cut off score for any admission cycle.
For more information about the application process, I have attached a copy of the Admissions Policy for September 2009 entry.
Unfortunately the University is unable to give advice about strengthening an application."
That isn't totally useful, so I was wondering if anyone has any concrete figures as to what, generally, the UKCAT cutoff has been. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As they have said...they don't publish it. It all depends on what your year group has performed like in the UKCAT. I belive they just take the top 1000 or whatever applicants to interview. I dont know fully tho...i'm before the days of this sort!

But surely there'll be someone who, for example, got through last year, and they would know what their average was. I know that 2400 is the accepted median, but, as you say, it varies, and I'd even just like a ballpark figure as to how it's been over the last few years, and what kinda numbers the median varies by...

I got 2600 in the UKCAT. My friend got slightly lower and also received an offer.
But honestly, I wouldn't bother trying to work out what the cut-off score might be. If you like Newcastle Uni and the city enough just take the risk and apply!1st year Newcastle medic

I received an offer with the score of 2400 for 2008 entry. Bare in mind though it was for the Durham entry. I was told before applying by the admissions secretary at Durham that the UKCAT cut off was set directly by newcastle and this would apply to applicant for both the newcastle and durham applicants. I must also say that the admissions secretary did point out that the cut off differs with each cycle.

Thanks very much indeed, that's helped me out greatly. I'll stick down Newcastle and take a go at it.
