What goes on in out-patient clinics?

for patients? or for docs? bit of a strange Q really....
basically its where docs/nurses/other health professionals in secondary care can see patients who are not in hospital.
it can be to see patients who have left hospital (in a check-up fashion), to see patients who will be coming into hospital for elective procedures, or to see those who have been sent to see the specialist by their GP (usually after a wait on a waiting list)....

Thanks for the reply - I ask because in my ps I expressed an interest in neurology and wasn't sure what went on in outpatient clinics - do you know what goes on here what regards to neurology?
