    Is Foundation Programme Allocation Anonymous?

I thought this process was meant to be anonymous to prevent nepotism, favouritism etc.

So imagine my surprise when I looked on the Scottish Foundation Application System website and found the following:

"Deadline for returning CVs and rankings

Note: You will only have one week to submit your CV if you are allocated to Scotland so please be aware of this and have it ready in advance to send as soon as you receive your Foundation School allocation. "

Effectively, students who are accepted into the Scotland foundation school have to rank 6 programmes within Scotland that they would like and then send a CV which is viewed and scored by the hospitals for deciding who gets a job (and who gets which job).

You can read the application process details here:

    http://www.nes.scot.nhs.uk/sfas/How_...le/default.asp

I apologise if I am missing something, but this seems like it is designed specifically to permit all of the things that the new system was designed to eliminate.

Does anybody know if my interpretation is correct or otherwise?

It's for Foundation year 1 and 2 posts. There are no internships in the UK, I'm not sure what the equivalent is for these posts in Ireland. They are the jobs we apply for in final year at uni, to start immediately after graduation (give or take a few weeks for a holiday).

We have internship here after we graduate- six months medical, six months surgical and then into specialist training. Similar to the old system in the UK I think. I really hope I get a place in the UK

Just moved this to a more relevant forum...

SFAS uses CVs (and interviews iirc) because they quite rightly feel that these have a better discriminative value than the stuff on the FP form... they're scored by independant markers who are themselves trained and vetted to eliminate bias so the system still stands up.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry too much about competition ratios within the Scottish FP school unless you're applying to Edinburgh.
