FY1 Application form
Hi guys,
I currently have two medical school offers, one in London, the other in Nottingham. Whilst they are both very good medical schools, I prefer to go to Nottingham for various reasons which are largely irrelevant here.
The only thing that's stopping me from confirming Nottingham is that I would quite like to do my F1/2 years in London, and I know that in previous years, one was more likely to be posted in the area one studied.
Somebody told me this is now not the case, because the people that look at the form and decide where to place people don't know which medical school they studied at. But someone else I spoke to recently said the opposite.
This has obviously got me a tad worried, because the only reason I'd choose to study in London is to work in London after graduation. I don't want to forfeit Nottingham only to find out it didn't make a difference which medical school I went to.
If anyone could shed some light on this matter I would be eternally grateful.
Nader

It makes no difference, you can apply anywhere for F1. Where you went to medical school will not prejudice an application.

Agree with the above comment that med school will not prejudice an application.
It might also be worth considering that it is much easier to select rotations based in hospitals of which you have some experience. While many people do move after med school, many more stay in the same region. And so the local candidates tend to have the best knowledge about what is on offer.
When I applied a few years back (much has changed since then) you also got points in a section where you had to give reasons for specific foundation school application - this section was hard to fill out with no first hand knowledge of an area, but not impossible. Does a similar section still exist? I assume not."The greater the ignorance the greater the dogmatism" (Sir William Osler)

Thank you so much for your replies. I think it's going to have to be Nottingham.
Even if that section about reasons for a specific foundation school still exists, I'm currently working as an ICU clinical physiologist at Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Trust so should be able to fill that section in without too many problems!
Thank you once again, you've made a tough decision a lot easier.
