Hello! I had a similar issue as you can imagine. I asked my undergraduate tutor who marked my dissertation for a reference, and he was extremely helpful. Like you I didn't want to mention anything to anyone until I had a place, plus for me it is such a change of direction- art to science- that I didn't think anyone would take me seriously. I studied as an undergraduate in a different institution so that made things much easier. However, I would suggest that if you are intending to finish your PhD then your supervisor probably will not mind so much if you ask for a reference, as at least you will be completing what you started. I was already way behind when I applied last October so it wouldn't have gone down well. So those are my thoughts. Please feel free to message me again if I can be of any more help! And good luck with it all too.
Hi there, I am also doing a PhD, but my PhD is on mathematical modelling of cancer and it got me interesting into the actual subject and now I want to study medicine after I finish... but I don't want my supervisor or anyone in the department to know before I get a place in my hand, as I feel as if I am cheating and wasting all this time researching and preparing to be an independent researcher to finally change direction. I think it is dishearening and not nice if I had to say it to my supervisor... so lets go back to my question.. Where did you get your reference from? I would have thought from your supervisor?! Plus I only work at uni in tutorials.. and private tutoring.. Any ideas?
