    I really didn't mean to offend anyone, but saying that Oxbirdge 'contributed nothing in 800 years' was just plain silly and I felt a post outlining why this was the case was called for.

    Oh dear. Cearly lots of people with axes to grind. Anyway, I foolishly kept answering back, let the post stray waaaaay off topic and ended up arguing about something completely different, i.e. whether an alumni list can ever be used as a surrogate measure for an institution's prowess. Gizmo is annoying. Anyone who has, like, 9,000 posts has to be a little stange though...
