recently i turned up for boxaerobix.
i spent most of me time rolling around like a beached elpless whale during stretching, and was out of puff by the time i ad to pull off some punches on pads.

Aikido wouldn't be a good idea. Read Angry White Pyjamas, you'll understand then.
For proper self defence, MMA would be a better idea. However I'm far too much of a pussy for that and always saw martial arts as just a bit of craic anyway.
To be honest I doubt you're going to learn much at a university run club.

True, but it would be fun - but I dont see what's wrong with Aikido.
Bushido would be a laugh - learn how to chop people in half with a true blue steel katana.

I've done fencing, and I've always thought it would be cool to learn Kendo and chop people (being this violent perhaps martial artist medics all become surgeons.....maybe)
Ive never learnt karate, but it would be cool to try me thinks!3rd Year Birmingham Medical Student

Ugh I tried fencing...found it so boring! Would love to do kendo. We used bokkans in aikiwa jitsu, was a lot of fun (though I got whacked by the handle of one into the tooth I'd chipped just the day before, sore

Hehe, fencing, I remember that. Got to grade 2 in Foil a few years back - it does still help if I get challenged to a ruler duel :P
