which is better in your opinion, BSAC or PADI? BSAC teaches u way more theory, padi is more widely accepted.

Don't start that, it could go on and on

I'm PADI, but in the process of doing a BSAC crossover because I want to dive with the university club. BSAC teach things that PADI don't and vice versa. There's a lot of BS with PADI training and it's very Americanised. Having said that, their course structures and learning materials are good.

I've worked as a DM and can assure you that both PADI and BSAC are quite capable of producing divers that are completely competent and others that are a danger to themselves. It's experience that matters, not agency/qualifications.

i'm CMAS trained so and have a firm opinion that a course is only as good as the person on it. there are some real mavrick divers that break all available rules in what they believe to be fun.
I have dived with PADI, BSAC, TDI divers and they all have the same basic principle -dont rush to the surface!!
ahhhh but the saga continues.

I did my open water course (PADI) last december in Portsmouth and am looking for a cheap week diving somewhere warm (I can't handle the cold again, not in a wetsuit!). Any recommendations guys and gals?

Can't beat Egyptian Red Sea for value/quality of diving. Not as good as it was and there are better places, but it'll still blow your mind.

Think you could get a week including diving for around 400 quid.

These guys have been pretty good in the past:

just to say that if you are thinking of going abroad and find a PADI dive centre it is advisable to check that it actually is what it claims to be by checking the PADI website. there has been a few people claiming they were a centre when they werent trained to run one etc.

Am going to let you all into a secret, the best diving in the world is off St Eustatius (Statia) in the Netherlands Antilles, Dutch Caribbean. Kind of near St Kitts. I soent 3 months on a conservation project there. One of the few places you'll see Leatherback turtles.

Totally undeveloped, not at all touristy and there are usually about 3 people on a dive. Have to dive the Charles L Brown, massive cable ship that they sunk last year and if you're very nice they might take you out to aqaurium. Did my open water for $200, advanced $175 and rescue $200. Going back this summer.

Have dived Egypt, Anglesey and Cornwall since and nothing has come close

Hi ya Im with BSAC and CMAS. I have to say the best diving I have done was in quite a secluded part of Greece. Secluded beaches, great bunch of instructors. Was a great laugh, and the diving was beautiful. That was my best experience. Have also been diving in protaras TNTMed. Great diving, I just didn't like the company I went diving with

The best diving I've done was in Hawaii - but its a little far and too expensive. Anyway, I was going to say...

That on the topic of a cold dive near Norway, I once chatted to a woman in Thailand who said:

'It's great diving in cold, dark, cloudy water as you very rarely see anything, so when you do it is really something!'

I am afraid I dont share her view, bring on the tropics! Sorry - that was a little random.
