Krav Maga
Hey, this martial art/combat style really looks interesting. Actually looks useful for real life situations. Not perhaps the most elegant techniques, but then do you really care when a guy sticks a knife in your face?
Anyone one at uni actually practice this? There aren't any trainers near me (all based in central B'ham) but the unis I'm applying to all seem to have instructors near the campuses.

Krav Maga
Krav Maga is a military hand-to-hand combat system developed in Israel, which assumes no quarter will be given, and emphasizes maximum threat neutralization in a "real life" context. It came to prominence following its adoption by various Israeli Security Forces.

Yeah, I did read about that. Then they showed it to the CIA and FBI, which then leaked out into the open market.

Depends what you want to achieve from it. I started Krav Maga but didn't really see much of a benefit. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty useful but as a Special Constable, I knew a good selection of the techniques anyway. I now do Thai Kickboxing; a lot more beneficial for fitness and stamina.

Cool.
IS Thai Kickboxing different to Muay Thai? Or are they one of the same?LEICESTER FRESHER 2009

My Dad taught me (though I prefer the walk away from it strategy). It was used in the ghettos in Europe before being used in the liberation of Israel from the British Occupation. He floored an intruder his 20s when he was in his 70s.
The last time I needed to use it I misjudged (ahem a bit tipsy) trying to get a knife out of someone's hand to stop him slashing his other wrist, slashing me or stabbing me and he landed on my chest, knife still in hand :FAIL
Could be useful in Psychiatry or A&E on a Friday or Saturday night.
