Cross Country/Long Distance Running
I could only find one running thread on here, and that was solely on the London Marathon. So who out here does cross country/long distance running? I'm very interested in joining the athletic union at Manchester. I've been running for about a year now at club level and my PB's have come crashing down and I've been running distances from 3k (a distance in which I came 4th out of 500 in one race) up to half marathons. I prefer roads, but cross country is always a laugh (especially if you don't have spikes like me
).
Any other runners out there?BSc (UCL)

I run a lot, but never really gone to any clubs, done lots of school cross countries etc. I also do short distance, which im probably better at, but I do enjoy the longer runs. However this season I haven't done much, torn hamstring, twas quite irritating!
Right now I've been running round 9-10 Km on this hiking trail, because the scenery here is gorgeous (Im in Finland) hence I prefer tracks over roads! Are you planning to run the London Marathon NV05?

Argh god no lol. Half marathons are my limit, anything more is just sadistic and I find does more damage to my body than is worth it. Are you considering running it?
Finland eh, there's only one Scandinavian country I've not visited, and that's Finland.
My training's been slack this summer as its been too hot for me; I did so much training in the winter wearing just shorts and t shirt that anything above 20 degrees burns me out after 5k.
There aren't many good tracks around where I live, its just sandy tracks around heathland.BSc (UCL)

Haha not seriously thought about it, though could be something that I may go for one day.. I doubt that I've run longer than 20 km and I died at 20 km.
I hate the cold! I live in Hong Kong so I'm used to running in hot weather! Luckily its not that cold yet here, but its getting there.
And no one comes to Finland! Its a beautiful country, filled with amazing, pretty... nothing. Its nice enough, but right now I am in the middle of nowhere.

Hi, i recently started to do some long distance running. Normally I run about 6/7 miles, sometimes twice a day. But I'm looking to do more short distance running now aswell, so that I can run even longer distances. I don't want to take part in the London marathon, but I want to be fit enough to do it, so that I know i could have run it if I had wanted to. Its a great stress reliever, especially during exams.

Yeah, I do a bit of running, not very serious tho - go for shortish runs 2-3 times a week. I ran a half-marathon earlier in the year which was wicked, so maybe a full marathon in the future, but not next year, lol.
I totally agree with NV05 about hot weather, I can't run in it at all. I much prefer running in the cold and actually I like to run in the rain too.

Only just sent off me' application. Run at county level for cross-country and ran a 72 minute half marathon in March. Does anyone know what the state of running and athletics clubs are at the uni's I'm applying to? At the BUSA's would one run for SGUL's or University of London? I'm applying to UCL SGUL BSMS and Birmingham.......

I try to run as often as possible. In the last few weeks I managed to run at least 3 to 4 times a week which is quite good for me. I run about 8 to 15 miles a day depending on weather, time and my physical condition. I just do it to stay fit and enjoy the benefits of sports. Additionally, it's fun and you can relax from work and forget your sorrow. I have to say I've become really ambitious and I've been starting to look at the time I need for a mile. Now I am trying to improve my miles per hour ratio at a weekly basis.
