Hi
First let me introduce myself. I'm a 2nd year medical student at Manchester and am gathering some research on spinal injuries incurred during contested scrums.....ie during scrum engagement and collapse.
A leading consultant has written a review regarding this issue, which you can find at:
http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/conte.../332/7552/1281
It's a controversial topic and i'm just wondering what medics who play rugby think about contested scrums?
Should contested scrums be banned in light of the spinal injuries involved?
Or
Do you think they're a traditional component of rugby union and should stay?
I would really love to hear your views.
Also, i need some people to comment "on the record" about their opinions regarding this topic. Obviously i will not publish anyones name without their consent so rest assured of your anonymity! However for those who don't mind having their name published please let me know via PM and we'll take it from there.
PS The magazine in question is "trauma room", which you can find at:
www.traumaroom.com
So peeps, what are your views????
