Raa you were training for the marathon for a year! I am probably going to Sri Lanka from November to January so I should start to seriously start running soon then and join a gym. If a lot of my mates were to apply for the marathon and one of us got a place, and if they didnt want to run, couldnt I just take their place? Therefore I can collect money for the charity without any pressure of having to collect over £1500. When did you start collecting sponsors, I cant imagine people giving me money? As far as they know I could just take their money. I was thinking to put this on my schools newsletter and collect money from as many pupils and teachers as possible, also I could get some money from family friends. But £1500! The rest I was thinking to just go house to house and talking to them about autism and what their money could do (hopefully want to run for the National Autistic Society). Yesterday I tried to see how much I could run, so ran from Brent Cross to my house. Dont know how far that it but I was running for 2 hours 10 mins, (well was walking half of it to be honest) but that really killed me, I know the marathon would be like 2 to 3 times that distance! which IS scary, so no I am not that fit to start with. When you say 20 miles, do you mean like on a treadmill, non-stop! Impressive. Thanks for your help StarGirl, been really helpful.

I dont think you can just take someone else's place. if they didnt want to run they have to decline their offer of a place. i personally wouldn bother joining a gym, waste of money! i ran outside, very cold mind you in the winter months! my main source of money came from my family and friends and tutors and pupils at college. people may question what you do with the money but if you contact the charity directly and ask them to send you a letter stating that they are expecting money from you, you can show that letter to anyone who doubts you!its good that you tried to run as far a syou could, but remember on the day of the marathon, just enjoy it, dont try to get a good time! you can walk as much or as little of it as you want! the 20 miles i got up to, i ran it on the street. street running and treadmill running are different so id stick to the street! and yes i got up to a point where i could run it comfortably whilst singing to my mp3 player as loud as i could!
hope that answers your q's!
xxx

Congrats to anyone who has run a marathon and Good Luck to anyone running this Sunday.

I've had to withdraw as I have a stress fracture in my femur and I am totally gutted - I've done all the training, got good shoes, had good base fitness, built up milage gradually etc etc.

There were 5 people I know who have places. 4 of us are out and the remaining one has a slight calf strain but running anyway. One friend has a stress fracture in her metatarsal, one has achillies tendonitis and the other friend has planta fasciitis. Who said this running lark is good for you?!?!?!?

Thankfully I've got a place for New York Marathon on November 4th 2007...
