Textbook Of Medical Physiology

TEXTBOOK OF MEDICAL PHYSIOLOGY 11th Edition
By Arthur Guyton and John Hall
Published by Saunders
ISBN 0721602401
Price £44.99

Most medical students to this day still use this book as a study tool, or reference, not just medical students but doctors who still wish to brush up their physiology knowledge.

This is the 11th edition - the newest one, with a sleek new look, and also a online resource is available, which allows you go read the book online, or to save the pictures from the book to your computer, or to test your own knowledge, by going through a few MCQ'S. Whilst browsing the book online, you can use even save pages, add notes to each page, and even send content to your PDA.

It has all the fundamentals of physiology yet blending it with clinical relevance, and it’s pathophysiological correlations. It is a must have as a reference tool. It presents all the key concepts of physiology yet in a clear and interesting manner that makes physiology more fun!

With over 1104 Pages and 1099 Illustrations a price of £44.99 is definitely worth the buy, considering the amount of knowledge you can gain from this book. There are many other books on physiology out there, but if you want a taste of the whole thing, then read Guyton's.

So looking for a book to buy? why not buy the new edition of Guyton's textbook of physiology?

Guyton I found, was hard to use as the main physiology book on my course (Manchester validated MbCHb). I used a combined anatomy/physiology book such as Martini/Saladin, and then used Guyton to "beef" up my notes. It generally goes into more detail than a combined textbook, but I found sometimes goes too far (for my course anyway). If you like reading lots about a topic, rather than the bare minimum that you need Guyton would be a good choice. It has lots of useful colour diagrams, and you get an online version when you buy the book. It is also a hardback, which is handy when it gets battered about throughout your studies.

I didn't like Guyton - I found it went round in circles trying to re-explain bits gone before. I'm sure they'll have got rid of the annoying red and different sized fonts by now.
