There are several types of books aimed at informing you about Medschools> I personally used

The Insiders' Guide to UK Medical Schools: Amazon.co.uk: Sally Girgis, Sally Girgis; Leigh Bisset; David Burke: Books

but I know there are many books - just try searching Amazon for "medical school"!

As to buying text books before going to Uni, as a 3rd year I would advise you not to. Different Unis have different preferred text books so its important to know which ones everyone uses I.e. is it Greys of Netter's anatomy. Also, once you are at medical school, you get offers from various companies and there are usually book sales from the upper years/library which can get you some very cheep books!

As a very useful set I would recommend an anatomy, a physiology and a pharmacology book for the first 2 years as a base set. I didn't get any specific ones, such as immunity, but I know many people do. I used the library. For clinical years an amazing book (and exciting to read when you are applying for medical school) is Macleod's Clinical Examination - get the full or pocket editions!

Sorry, how could I miss the good old 'Cheese n Onion" Oxford clinical handbook. Everyone has one of these. If you want one book for clinical years, that should be it!
