Hi
Basically, i was wondering if there were any books on anything related to do medicine, perhaps surgery in particular, which were suitable for A level students to read. Not for a heard start or anything but just for interest sake.
Thanks

Hey Greys, I always wondered what happened to the books after a levels had finished i've thrown mine out unfortunately. Have you found any other resource as i could use something similar for starting uni soon :-)

Any anatomy and physiology book would do, cos it kinda starts off at A Level.
Oxford handbooks are pretty good, although maybe a bit too complicated of you've not studied the content.
The first bit about medicine in general is good though, it covers things like patient relations, death, the role of a doctor etc.
Are you going to med school this year or applying?

Yeah the oxford handbooks are good, the clinical medicine and medical science one should be fine for you to read actually.

Is Kumar and Clark a good investment because it's really expensive.

Kumar & Clark is like the medics bible lol, it's excellent for finals revision. I wouldn't bother getting it til you're at med school though, it's expensive and you won't be needing it for a bit. New editions might come out too.

Yeah, however I heard there are areas you can access online which would allow for easier understanding which is appealing. Thanks for the advice Drneuro

Most textbooks have the internet thing, it's called student consult or something. When you get to med school you'll have to get an anatomy and physiology textbook (diff unis have different preferences as to which one they'll want you to get), and that will defo have an online tutorial programme thing with it.
If you want some reading that you'll understand now and be able to use i'd say the oxford handbooks of medical science and clinical medicine are good. As you get further on into the clinical medicine one it's aimed at a higher level, but the beginning bit is all about the role of a doctor and dealing with different stuff so that can be quite useful for your personal statement =)
If you do really want the kumar & clark i'd keep an eye on ebay cos ex students tend to put their books up a lot.

If you don't want to buy Kumar & Clark because of its price, you can download it. I downloaded it but I don't remember from which site. I think I found it on AvaxHome.
