stories of doctoring!!

Hi
Dont know if this was the right place to post this but I was just wondering if anyone new any good fiction/autobiographical accounts about life as a doctor...They don't have to be completely accurate!

I've already read a book called 'suburban shaman' by cecil helman and "the man who mistook his wife for a hat", so if anyone can recommend anything similar or any good novels featuring doctors then please let me know.

I'm about to start medical school and want to read something that will get me excited (rather than something gritty and factual, which I'm sure I'll get enough of as soon as I start!)

thanks
Anna

House of God - it should be read by every pre-med in my opinion.
Bedside stories - a good collection of tales from a UCL grad working in A&E and psychiatry.
Complications by Atul Gawande is a good read, about the fallibility of surgeons.

I can't believe that nobody's mentioned Bodies (Mercurio) - definitely worth a read.

I wasn't such a fan of bodies. I loved the TV show (though quite different form the book) but the book, I thought, had more sex in it than needed (the sex scenes started annoying me in the end).

I really like Intern Blues, it's American but it follows 3 doctors through their first year, it's really good. What for Chop Today is also good.

Intern Blues is an excellent book. Must dig it out of my bookcase and have a re-read. Just finished "In stitches," which I really enjoyed, and am about to start "Better" Atul Gawande's latest book. I've also got "Another day in the frontal lobe" to read, which is (unsurprisingly) written by a brain surgeon about her daily practice.
