Uh oh, there *is* one? I just assumed (somewhat naively...) that in clinical phase you chose what books you like to read up on stuff you encounter in your placements?

There's no reading list for phase II like there was in phase I.
Get the oxford handbook of clinical medicine (aka cheese and onion), as well as "surgical talk". Some people get a clinical method book, Hutchinson's is the one that I'd recommend. Many people also like Saunders Pocket Essentials of Clinical Medicine (baby Kumar) but I don't think it has enough detail. For a big textbook of medicine, Harrison's is the most comprehensive, but expensive, and most people do without, or use Kumar & Clark.
At the start of the year you'll be given 10 UCL produced pathology books, which have most of the stuff that you'll need for written exams.
