Recommended statistics textbooks

Hi - could any of you please recommend a good, user friendly (!) textbook for medical statistics, I don't mean to PhD maths level (in fact I don't really want all the tedious explanations of the proofs and so on), but something that covers all the general sorts of things you need to know. I actually want to use this for analysis of admissions data rather than study per se.

Thanks for your help.

The one that I used for my dissertation was Medical Statistics at a Glance by Petrie and Sabin (ISBN:1405127805). It strips everything to the bare bones and I found the diagrams and examples really helpful.

For some more in-depth explanations then Essential Medical Statistics by Kirkwood and Sterne (ISBN: 0865428719) isn't too bad but it's very wordy and theory based.
