General surgical text for Sydney/New York elective

Any ideas on what i should be reading before i go??? Getting a bit concerned about the much higher standards over there!

Lecture Notes on General Surgery covers all the bases in a relatively easy to understand manner. It's all written in a style that's pretty easy to read (unlike so many other texts!)

Thanks for the quick reply. I've had a look at that text and looks promising. Only thing is that it's not too hot on the operative side of things. Any ideas? A friend of mine was doing general surgery last year at Columbia and they were horrified at the fact he never new the steps of an adrenectomy! Damm Americans.......

Yeah, well, american med students are crazy, and I speak with experience here!

Over in sydney you'll be fine, they know just as much (little) as we do, and there ain't no gunners in Oz.

As for the US - try asking on SDN what they use (www.studentdoctor.net) - you'll get hundreds of replies in about 2 seconds probably, all completely contrary, and all designed the scare the life out of you. But don't worry, they're quite nice really

Forgot to say - 2nd vote for Lecture notes.

Anatomy recall might be quite useful - I seem to remember that has some operative surgery in it.
