    out of curiousity, does anyone know the technical name for a doctor that specialised in diabetes?

    Endocrinologist in the UK - though in the US they are sometimes called diabetologists.

    Endocrinologists and diabetologists are different things! People tend to more of one or the other these days.

    True but I've not come across a pure diabetologist in any of the hospitals that I've been. Even those who almost exclusively saw diabetics would dabble in other endocrine conditions, and certainly they trained as endocrinologists first and subspecialised later.
