Haha I saw that. I wasn't quite sure what to think about it. I think it's a bit arrogant though, but I did like some of her points.

Hahaha! I think that is great! IMO she's right although too many people on here (maybe even me :O ) would jump at an offer from Oxford. Regardless her points are valid!

To be honest I think her actions are quite arrogant and immature. I went to a state school and sixth form college where I was the only person out of 1000 people in my year to go to Oxford. I found the interviewers to be friendly and welcoming. Yes the interviews are challenging, they push you and challenge your arguments to see if you can defend them and so they can see how you think. She chose to apply to Oxford, nobody made her and if she felt so strongly about it as an institution she should have applied elsewhere. I loved my time at Oxford, made some wonderful friends who I will keep for life and I gained more confidence and self-belief in my abilities. I benefited from the knowledge of wonderful tutors and lecturers and would thoroughly recommend the experience. Obviously if you don’t like the tradition and the city of Oxford and can’t see yourself going there don’t apply but for those who do go the vast majority thoroughly enjoy there time there…in fact many never leave!

    Hmmm.... these grapes are sour.

I would have been more impressed had she actually had an offer form Oxford and turned them down, but this sounds like a pretentious and arrogant little girl who canned her interview and is now trying to have a little dig at Oxford while massaging her bruised ego.

I also read this story in the Metro which makes you wonder how this story got about the media, as Oxford Uni certainly wouldn't have publicised this. We can put self-aggrandizement on her list of qualities, along with her ability to make sweeping and untrue generalisations about class and ethinicity. Good luck with her UCL application!

If she dislikes the rituals of Magdalen college or what Oxford stands for then why apply there? Surely she attended an open day before applying. Considering the months of extra work required to apply to Oxford no-one applies there just to keep their options open and the interview is a very strange time to realise that you're fundamentally opposed to what you think Oxford stands for.

Large and grandiose buildings are intended to inspire and woo potential students, not intimidate state school applicants, and if she's scared of big buildings then the law is definitely not the career for her.

While I find the format of her letter amusing it is undermined by its pretentiousness, lack of accuracy and the self-serving motives behind it.

    Here here ^^

I can't believe she didn't actually have an offer! I had assumed she did. That's quite funny.

I think shes an idiot who just blew what might have been a good chance of an unbelievable uni experience. The article doesnt make me smile, I just makes me shake my head.

What really winds me up is her BS statement that she spent to whole time at interview laughing at the rituals and seriousness of the establishment. And shes calling them judgemental and shallow?

I suppose she thinks law is a profession full of fun and games and dancing in meadows. Its a serious job and people studying the degree should take it as such. Good luck getting any kind of job with that attitude. I assume she'd send the same letter to Herbert Smith or Slaughters.

It just made me laugh seeing the roles reversed, with a student sending a rejection letter.

I agree, if you dont like the thought of going to such a university, why apply in the first place?!

The most foolish part seems to be sending the letter before offers have been given. As it seems a widely distributed story, i'm guessing its likely another university could see it and steer clear!

Maybe shes developed her idea of a legal career based on accidentlawyers4u adverts and doesn't think it'll be much of a challenge

Childish Childish Childish.... I agree with ^^ She has been thrown into the deep end with the intellectuality of the University - So she is trying to swim with some action - that she couldnt impress with on the day.
