    Smile Interview help!

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you had any knowledge of what questions you are likely to get asked and how you would answer them, as i am not sure. And also i have heard, but i'm not sure, do they ask you your questions based on your personal statement or is it completely diefferent?

    Thanks

It really does depend on where you've applied since all Universities do things slightly differently. Here is a pretty useful link:
What you should expect at a medical school interview - The Student Room

In my experience (two interviews...so not extensive)...the key things to know are your own application (everything you have mentioned like PS, references...etc) and general medical issues (NHS/ethics...etc).

I recommend the ISC Medical Interview prep book. It does help you understand some basic ethical questions, and it also helps answer the 'sell yourself' questions. The model answers may be a tad OTT, but the general gist is worth understanding.

That being siad, you may be asked various 'science' questions, which you obviously will either know or not know, so get reading

As the poster above said it really depends where you apply...some med schools do the whole 'speed dating interview' thing, i've not had one of those, sounds terrifying...some ask more sciencey questions etc, and some are quite straight forward about your personal statement

in my experience the most important thing by far is to know your personal statement inside out and be able to talk about anything you've said on it.

then things like the progression of a career in medicine, the NHS, key ethical scenarios.

i had an interview at cardiff and one at leeds (got accepted to both) and my overall impression was them wanting to get to know me, my motivations for going into medicine and the experiences i've had that have led me to it/will help me in med school/my future career

    good luck!

As the others have said, it varies hugely. One thing to watch out for is they will expect you to have researched the particular medical school well and know why you want to go there. I had an interview at glasgow where they even asked me a question about how many hours a week of particular classes a first year student would have. Its all in their prospectus, I think they're just trying to check you have really looked into going to their school. I've also spoken to someone on a bsms interview panel who said someone once answered the quesition 'why this medical school?' with something about how much they like pbl, which bsms don't do! Don't let something so simple and avoidable trip you up

So did they ask that question? I had assumed they wouldnt in case the applicant was also going for Barts... but perhaps they have different preselected questions depending..
