    Pre-Medical course interview - "WHY" ??

    Hey everyone,

I am very much looking to enter a pathology career but obviously first have to set my sights on getting into medical school. As it stands my grades are not up to scratch so I am opting for a pre-medical course. I have an interview soon and was wondering if anyone out there had some good answers as to why they want to pursue a pathology/medical career?

You know how it is, the 1 million pound question of "Why do you want to do medicine". As much as I've always wanted to go into pathology, I feel they would want to know why I want to help people and that I have a caring approach and all that malarkey. Not that I want to lie to them, but I honestly cannot think of WHY I want to do this - I find myself trying to materialise an answer they want to hear, something unoriginal that everyone else has said. It is not that I am not good with people or do not care about helping my fellow man, on the contrary, it is just I am still attracted to the idea of being a doctor - having the title - the status and a career as a pathologist.

I mean lets be honest, if the money wasnt as good as it is, and the feeling (however minute it is) that you are somewhat more successfull than others, how many people would ACTUALLY be doctors. Sorry about the rant - just wanted to see what people thought and could offer any suggestions.

    Kind Regards,

    Tomethy.

I'm a CMT trainee working toward a career in haematology and the best answer I know for why a career in pathology is enticing is that, unlike physicians, we can find the definitive pathological diagnosis in front of us (for which we are responsible) and use our knowledge of such pathology to facilitate the treatment of the patient.

    Good luck.
