Yep, it was all over the barts forum and i didnt believe it until i phoned up. Its because they over offered last year and so a lot of students were forced onto a gap year which means more places are taken up this year, and just for this year they r being really strict, but next year it will go back down! We really r in the worst year ever to apply to medicine!

I was just officially rejected aswell, but i was offered to apply for another course.

I came across Biomedical sciences and they talked about the Modified Application Scheme into medicine; does anyone actually know what this is or involves???

If you get AAA in your A-levels I can't advise you strongly enough NOT to do a degree (unless you have a lot of money). The only reason I did one was because I did badly at A-level. Yes, I learnt a HUGE amount and a lot of really valuable skills, but if I could have done it in one year not 3 then that's obviously the preferred option. Lots of people who have good enough grades for med take a year out working in a hospital, get a bit of money, boost their experience, re-apply and get a tonne of offers. Of course you still have to re-sit UKCAT...but there are means to better prepare for it if you didn't do so well first time round.

Modified Application Scheme- You can apply for Med in your first year provided you get over a certain mark overall.. usually about 75%... very risky tho.. if u have the grades u might aswell take a gap year and reapply
I think I might go to see what I can do to make myself more appealing for when I re apply.

right up to end of March. They got 5000 applicants this year apparently so are still going thru them in batches. no news is good news as it means you haven't been rejected-they just haven't gotten round to you yet
