Well what's the example? I think that this question gives you an opportunity to show that you are amenable to new ideas and that you can be persuaded by a good argument, new information, new way of thinking etc.
I've never had the question put to me in such a didactic way "had to change it" but I've often had the question put to me without the had to. I can think of several personal examples but also my opinion on euthanasia. I used to think that it was a right that every patient had and that for certain cases, it would probably be better than continuing to administer treatment, within reason of course. I could see certain ethical problems that would arise if this were to be made law but otherwise, I was firmly in the patient's corner.
But then, when I began to think about applying to medicine seriously, I started to think about it from the doctor's point of view. Whilst I won't bore you with the details, my opinion began to change and now my opinion is definitely out of patient's corner and I'm into a grey area. This is the answer I would probably use if ever asked this question.
If I answered with this, they could see that I'm able to place myself in another person's shoes, and see both sides of an argument. They can also see how I might be persuaded and that I am not immovable or stubborn or self-centred when it comes to standing by my opinion. With the detail that I would include, they can see that I can learn from experience as well and that I have a well-developed reasoning process.
There's nothing specific that they're asking you to demonstrate. The canvas is blank as far as they're concerned. As far as filling it in goes, they would prefer that you used certain colours and drew certain shpes but it's up to you how you arrange them.Could end up at any one of these by 2010:
King's College London. That'd be for 5 years.
Hull or York. Again, this would be for half a decade.
Leeds. I imagine that it's not quite five years actually, but that's the general idea.
Cambridge. The idea here is that you spend three years and nine months becoming a doctor. That really is quite a bit less than 4 years.
Might even end up at Oxford. I threw in PPP as a long shot. I like Biology that much.

I thought 'give an example of when you've had to change your plans at short notice' was a tough one also.. I have no idea how to turn this in a medically favourable direction: Relevance?!!

does this necessarily have to be answered with medical relevance or is it merely to see how you adapt as a person to various changing circumstances and evidence?
