Definite Interview Questions?
Will the universities be definitely asking the questions 'Why us?' and 'Why Medicine?' I've prepared and thought about these questions for a LONG time now, it would really put me off in the interview if they didn't ask these questions..
Has anyone had an interview who did not get either of these questions?

I wasn't asked why I wanted to study medicine or be a doctor in my interview. Although this was answered in my ps.

I'm sure they would have, but it depends on whether they convinced the reader or not. I think I devoted one sentence to sum up why I have chosen medicine but I guess the whole statement (what I have learnt during my experience, what I enjoy about my job, what makes me tick) supports that. I guess that either they felt they didn't need to ask me why medicine in the interview or they ran out of time.
Although they asked a lot about my work experience and what it meant to me, so I guess in that way they were trying to get me to clarify what I had said in my ps.Last edited by laurence83; 10-12-2006 at 04:30 PM.

Don't go into the interview thinking they're gna ask you question X or Y. As you said, it will put you off. You WILL get questions you aren't prepared for, and you have to be quick on your feet. You should know the general themes of questions, and be prepared to answer questions flexibily around those themes. You will most likely be aske why medicine and why university X, but don't rely on those answers primarily as the base of your interview.

I had an interview at Liverpool when I applied 3 years ago, they didn't ask me Why medicine? and I'm pretty sure they didn't ask me Why Liverpool? either!
zeyad's right, and it's never good to be too over-prepared and sound like you've memorised your answers.BSc Hons Pharmacology 2004-2007

In my Birmingham interview they didn't ask me why medicine, or why Birmingham, or anything about current affairs or ethics or why me, even. Of course, there were some medicine related questions, but most of them were quite obscure, mostly to see how I would react under unexpected conditions I suppose. They are fully aware that we've all prepared for certain questions and so you should never assume that they'll stick to these.
