strange question!!!!!
Hi ppl, this may sound like a really weird question, but where do you put your hands in an interveiw? I have had practice interveiws and every time I dont know what to do with my hands, is there any way to overcome this as it is meant to be a sign of nervousness

I leave mine on the ends of my arms...
But seriously; put them wherever they are right now - in their natural position. If you put them somewhere else you'll probably fidget, which will make you look and feel uneasy.

Hey, i think the most important thing is not to cross your arms as this may make you seem a bit defensive. I just try and have them relaxed like on my lap or something.
try not to fidget to much either coz i think that makes u look nervous.

Wherever they feel comfortable, I guess. Maybe clasped on your lap if you're really conscious of where to put them? It's probably best to avoid crossing your arms because it's closed and defensive. Hands on your knees may look unnatural and nervous. I think it's important to use your hands in gestures to emphasise that your passionate about what you're talking about during the interview. Just don't go overboard. In the election campaign you'll see all of the leaders making choreographed hand movements, especially the prime minister. Maybe you can pick up a few tips.

I've read that one of the best "positions" is hands on the knees palms up! It demonstrates that you're being open, honest and sincere, and it stops you fidgeting...

Palms up? Wa'da'fuk? You'd surely be inviting your interviewer to "gimme some skin"...
I dunno about that, mate!

Im a big talker with my hands (if that makes sense) so for my interviews i took in a leather folder with my personal statement/id etc, not to show in the interview, but so that i could clasp my hands round it on my knee.
Like cymro says tho, it is important to use some hand gestures to emphasize your points etc. Just leave the semaphore at home
if you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours

It may be worth mentioning 'Would You Hire You?', a BBC Three series looking at interview techniques and how to improve them. It's on tonight at 20:00 and repeated late nights (not sure when).

22-04-2005 10:35 PM #10I was told on your legs palms down. As when you are talking if you are being naturally honest and open, then your hands would turn palm up showing that you are being sincere. But never with your hands closed together as it shows you are being defensiveI've read that one of the best "positions" is hands on the knees palms up!
