A watchdog says chats with care home staff can help dementia patients but warns not enough talking is done.

If it helps them relate to the world around them - of course. I soppose it would largely depend on wether music is/was a big part of their life... talking is a more universal feature of life though.

Why does it have to depend on whether music was a 'big' part of their life??

Generally agitated patients calm down when I sing quietly to them or hum, sometimes they hum along (usually their own tunes though ) and occasionally I get a smile from them.

I'd imagine interaction of any form would be better than none but I don't know, that's why I asked.
