Would people really choose whether or not to keep a child based on whether it was in hospital or with a GP? I wouldn't have thought people would be so frivolous...Unless the increased waiting time in a hospital would put people off, as the foetus would be more mature...?

What is the current average waiting time from seeing a GP to having a termination?

I think the trial is only starting now or is going to start soon. As far as I know some women can be waiting six weeks before they get it done at a hospital.

Do you think? I'm sure there are thousand of people out here thinking "if only an abortion was easier to get, I'd have unprotected sex more often..."
I'd be surprised, personally. In fact, if people were thinking that lucidly we'd probably notice changes for the better rather than for the worse . . .4th year Medic

So you think that these women should go through a six week wait just because you think people will become more 'careless' if otherwise?

I also think making abortions easier is just encouraging people to be more careless. The fact that abortions are legal now means that if someone does fall pregnant and doesn't want a child, they can easily get rid of it. But would that same person have fallen pregnant in the first place without this safety net to fall back on? I personally believe that if people realised that every time they had unprotected sex they could fall pregnant and have to keep this baby for the next 18 years of it's life, then they would be far more careful.

Yes they probably would have. Ever heard of accidents? They happen a lot. Abortions are illegal here in Ireland, yet there are still many large families. Also, a large number of women from here go to England for abortions (even though it's hundreds of times more expensive than buying a condom).

Accidents may happen, but theres a clear difference between accidents and people just being plain careless. In my opinion anyway.
