Prison Electives

I'm just starting to think about my elective and found a great idea from the MDU website about doing an elective on prison healthcare.
It advertises 4 UK prisons that accept med students on electives, but the problem is the placements are only 2-3 weeks long and my elective has to be at least 8 weeks.
Another issue is the fact that I really wanted to travel for my elective, not too fussed about where as long as it is English speaking, but Im not too sure about where is likely to give me a placement.
Any ideas or advice about how I can move forward with this idea would be greatly appreciated- thanks in advance

my friend vix who uses these forums (think she's away atm though) did a prison elective at belmarsh prison i think it was, last summer. she did it for either 2 or 3 weeks and then went to malta for the rest of her elective. i don't know if you'd want to spend more than 3 weeks doing a prison elective, i think it was pretty tough going but she really enjoyed it.

sorry if that doesn't help much, she may well appear and offer more advice!

Yeah, I've already snet her a msg as I saw her post on a different thread! I emailed to prisons in florida yesterday, just to see if i have any chance in the world, so hopefully i will hear something back!

I'm interested in doing 2 different things on my elective too, but im sure ours has to have a common theme, so i'd have to find 2 places offering me similar placements which might prove even harder :S
