Elective medical volunteer in Nepal
I.N.F.O. Nepal is seeking personnel with medical background to apply for volunteer work providing basic health care to impoverished rural populations, and children of orphanages in Nepal. Encourage medical students, nurses, and medical doctors to apply. Organize your own groups of 3-12 participants. Program start times are flexible according to your groups' needs. This will be a cultural and sightseeing experience, as well as clinical application of medical knowledge to those in need.
Program options are as follows.
2 week program :
4 day cultural training and sightseeing in Kathmandu valley with one villagehealth camp visit.
3 day safari in Chitwan national park and one health camp in Tharu village.
5 day clinical experience performing general health exams and hygieneinstruction in orphanages.
3 week program :
In addition to above program, will also include visit to Pohkara with 4 day trek.
4 week program :
Includes visit to Pokhara with a full week of trekking, as well as visit to Lumbini, birthplace of Buddha.
This is an excellent resource for medical students with a need for hands on experience!
Many other short term (less than one year) volunteer programs are very expensive, with some approaching thousands of dollars. INFO was formed specifically because many other programs were cost prohibitive, and we offer very low rates per month.

The placements are available in Kathmandu Valley, Kavre, Langtang, Pokhara, Nawalparasi and Chitwan, all of which are near to a major city. Volunteers can look up the places to get more of a feel for the areas and we can discuss where you will stay when you arrive according to your needs and with considerations of safety of volunteers and availability. Our local co-ordinators will be looking after you.
We also can manage placements for 30 people as we have 30 facilities to place volunteers at a time but we need to receive flight arrival information at least a month in advance.
|| YOUR DAY AT THE PLACEMENT
In a typical placement volunteers stay in a family where they eat Nepali food with the family twice a day (around 9 o' clock in the morning and 7 o' clock in the evening). Tea is served in the morning and in the afternoon. Volunteers may have the opportunity to get together with other volunteers and share their experience. You will be able to travel to nearby towns to purchase things for daily use and could travel to other areas on longer vacation. Besides your project work, volunteers can utilize their spare time in organizing the youth and women's groups of the community to do some worthwhile activities like building a smokeless stove, toilet by using local materials, making a soak pit, kitchen gardening, making a solar dryer, garbage management or paper recycling.
|| PROGRAM REQUIREMENT
We do not ask for any formal qualifications from our volunteers. All we ask is that you have a genuine desire to help people and willing to experience new culture and lifestyle.
