    Ukranian med school, Lugansk.

    Hello,

Has anyone heard of this university (Lugansk) in the Ukraine?

Its listed in the WHO and FAIMER schools, but so is the Kings medical school in the Solomon Islands that supposedly doesnt exist.

If you could give us any pointers it would be appreciated.

I hate to slag my ancestral homeland, but I would only suggest doing an elective in Ukraine if you speak the language (Russian for the most part, but most will also speak Ukrainian). And that's speaking from the perspective of seeing a 'good' hospital in the capital city Kyiv.

The language barrier would be too great, and the lack of technology may further isolate you.

    Lugansk medical schools

I have never heard of that particular medical school in Lugansk. I know of two schools: Lugansk Tars Scheuchenko National Pedagogical University which my fiancee attends. The other is one of the best medical schools in the country - Lugansk State Medical University. The medical system in the country is antiquated to say the least. If you want to get involved with current medical trends, I would suggest going somewhere else, but that is my own personal opinion. I can give you the website of the two schools and you can make your own decision. I was in Lugansk this past summer visiting my fiancee so I can provide some relatively recent info on the city and prices.

I did some work experience in a hospital in Kyiv just over a year ago and I would agree that the Ukraine isn't a great place to do an elective, the facilities are awful. As for the language, I agree, it would be a problem, conversational Russian is easy enough to pick up in a few weeks but there is no way you would be able to understand enough in a hospital situation to make it worth while.

    How did u arrange that?

I'd love to do some work experience in Eastern Europe, that doesn't cost a few grand (like most agencies charge)!!
