MCAT Forum

Discuss the MCAT exam in this forum. MCAT stands for "Medical College Admission Test".

Almost all US medical schools now require students to submit MCAT scores during the admissions process. The MCAT score is then taken into account by the medical college admission committees.

The MCAT is a multiple choice examination. MCAT scores are reported in Verbal Reasoning, Physical Sciences, Writing Sample and Biological Sciences.

With one or two very rare convoluted exceptions (please see my other posts), an undergraduate degree must be completed in the U.S. or Canada, and the MCAT exam must be taken before U.S. medical schools will review an application. Try to stay in the U.K.

Well if you really want to become a doctor in the US, you'll have to get an Bachelor's degree first. This can be in any subject, but you must complete certain prerequisites: chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, physics.

Are you a dual citizen? If not, you'll have to get a student visa, but I would imagine this would be fairly easy if you're accepted to a university.

Good luck!

Let's keep it professional folks. Just ignore off-colour comments and rest assured that any grossly inappropriate posts will be deleted by the mods.

This probably has something to do with it. (Where's a Lol-con when you need one)

At any rate, I've read that Medicine in the US is strictly a post-graduate degree. That and, it's going to cost you a lot.

And what makes you think US doctors are any better.

True Baki, definitely. Furthermore, there's something to be said about complaining about a system from a distance, and joining a system to help change such perceptions. You are going into medicine for the patient- to help them and to help cure disease.

In juxtaposition to such views on the NHS, I have had excellent, top-notch experiences of the system. I know it's not perfect, but doctors usually, do their best to do whatever they can to help. I for one am excited and proud about entering our medical establishments in the UK.
