Where can i apply with a 2.1 in biomed, an MSc in biomed but terrible a-levels/ gcses
Hey all; so im new here...
So over the past year i have been slowly taking positive steps towards applying to (Graduate Entry) medical school; much under the illusion that everything is "golden" with my 2.1 hons degree in biomedical science. I am a full time HCA in a hospital and i have been studying my MSc along side that...
A little about me..
However, I have a history of C grades at GCSE and appalling "a levels"; B,E,c in Geography, Environmental Science and (As) Biology. Growing up i was never pushed or encouraged by my parents (or school) to do homework or study in school. my parents regularly cut my confidence and labeled me below average (they do not greatly value education). consequently, in school i was often left with the 'slightly' special needs kids and was entered into all foundation papers. after school I drifted into college where i maintained my bad mentality (and grades). I applied to uni regardless in an effort escape the town i grew up in and to my own dismay i got accepted.
University was the first place where i had a change of mindset and broke the poor mentality that i had instilled inside me. I began to realise no one was really any smarter than me and that i was just never told by any authoritative figure to do my homework or pick up a book. i began to study and raised my standards academically. i got some firsts, mostly 2.1's and a few high 2.2's.
After some advice from my professor last October, i decided my to apply for medicine for 2013 entry, I had "narrowed down" the very limited options i actually had left after deciding to ONLY sit the UKCAT (and the fact that my previous grades were so bad). I settled with;
-Warwick
-Barts
-Newcastle
- Leicester
the first three of which dont take into account your a-levels or gcses. However, with the very limited places at Newcastle and the discovery that leicester rank you against other applicants taking in to consideration your gcses and alevel i'm kind of only left with two solid options (warwick and barts).
Does anyone know if kings and imperial discriminate or rank you agains other applicant based on gcse's and A levels? or another UKCAT uni's i could apply for?
I have done reasonably extensive research on this matter but most of the resources (eg Medical interviews website and medschoolsonline) are quite out of date and i find it difficult to extrapolate the info from the individual universities web sites
Thanks for listening to me ramble... x
