2012 4 year Graduate entry ukcat 675
hiya,
im applying for 2012 entry to grad medicine, about to finish a biomed degree (predicted 2.1), UKCAT scores are vr-600,qr-660,ar-700,da-750, average 675.
just wondering if anyone had any advice about which med schools would be appropriate? as far as i know queen marys is the only one thats ruled out by the ukcat?
of course p.s.,work exp and ref comes into it. does anyone know if unis look at gcses/IB etc as well as the degree?
Many thanks if anyone could help out..!

think you would struggle for Newcastle as usually looks for 700+ for GEP. In fact, lots of them do. sorry can't tell you them but I only applied to 5 year courses.
Research is key for you to avoid wasting choices.
Good luck.

thanks for the replies,
ive applied to kings internally so not too worried bout that one, phone warwick and they said their cut off is usually 2600. gutted about newcastle tho, think ill just have to phone them and ask. i know they say it changes every year-but surely it cant vary that much?
kaodeve-do u mind me asking ur ukcat and wher u applied for 5 yr courses?
i think ill end up applying to 2 4yr and 2 5yr anyway. 4yr are surely going to be way more competetive now cos of the rise in fees?

I applied to Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Newcastle. My UKCAT was not brilliant - 660 but good enough for Glasgow!
Newcastle's 5 year cut-off was 675 at start but reduced to 667.5 after some interviews had been done as they obviously were not seeing people they liked.

Hi Apprentice,
My UKCAT was 665 and I still plan on applying to QMUL. There are rumours that the cutoff may decrease this year because it may not be as competitive as last year with the fees hike. I wouldn't say it is ruled out completely either because their cutoff does vary year to year, and this years test could have been harder than last years (wishful thinking!), so I would still encourage you to apply.
Good luck

snakefisch- thanks for th reply. iv decided on kings 5yr, southampton 4yr, warwick 4yr and possibly uea 5yr. i hope the qmul cut off is lower for you! jsut dont want to risk it,
have u already registered with ucas? im a bit worried as last time i applied school told us when to do everythin! iv done my personal statment etc i just dont know when the earliest we can send off applications is, or how we go about including the reference?

Hi Apprentice,
Yes I've registered with UCAS to fill in all the bits and bobs already. Still working on my statement though and need to get a reference. It opens on the 1st September properly. I think the earliest you can send it off is either then or on the 15th.
Can you afford the 5 yr course then? I can't understand how anyone is able to afford it! 4 years at full cost (£9K) with no loan plus living fees on top. Thinking about it makes me miserable

Hate to say it, but I think that would be too low for the Newcastle GEP. My year the lowest score I heard of getting an interview was 687.5 and I think that it was maybe a little higher last year.
2010 Entry:
Newcastle GEP - one year down, three to go!
UKCAT - 692.5 average
Degree: 1st in Biomedical Science
