Hello dotvicky,
I am also really confused as up to now have been told I cannot have any funding, but last week got a letter saying that I am entitled to some of the maintenance loan (not means tested - they hadn't assessed my husband's paysips) and the tuition fee loan, but no grant - even though I haven't actually appealed anything yet!! I sent off the signed declaration thingy but now am wondering whether I should phone up to find out whether they are going to means test the loan (in which case I should get the full amount) - and whether I should try my luck for the grant?!!!.....or should I just leave it and hope they don't notice they've offered me the tuition fee loan??? What should I do??? Help!!BSc (Hons) 2:1 Microbial & Cellular Biology

Hey Bella,
I should hear back from my first appeal in the next few days (sent before I got the letter - seems I'm getting the full maintenance loan - just shy of £5000) so we'll see what they do. I will decide what I'm going to do based on what that appeal says. They really don't seem to know their arse from their elbow!
Cheers

heres another odd thing.

I applied for 75% of the maintenance loan, as I would have recived zilch if declared income, (husband has high earnings, with even higher outgoings). Have just found out that they will give me a loan for the full amount!!! not just 75%.
Apparently the university sent something in on tuesday, according to the website, making a change to the application. After following this thread since it started, i was fully expecting not to recieve even the tuition fees loan. very excited right now .

I just wish they would notify me of something! My application has been received and processed for over 2 months!
Its getting so close to term time now and I have no idea how much wonga I will have.
ARGH!
Anyone think I should get a complaints letter off sharpish and see if that speeds things up? I know I am not anymore important than anyone else, but I dont know anyone who has been left hanging at this stage for so long.

I applied at the start of July and have still not got any offer of support as yet, I got my passport back this week but thats all. Was told when I rang last week that there was a policy change which was not being decided by the ELB but some other authority and was also told under the current system I would only be able to get the maintance loan at this point. I could appeal for not getting tuition loan but im gonna wait til I get word back first I think.

You could be cynical about all this and wonder if they're intentionally leaving the decisions for our applications until very late in the day. I bet the closer we get to the start of the academic year the less willing people are going to be to delay their first instalment by appealing.

i think, that if you are in a situation, where you cant pay the first lot of bills, because of a delay in student loans, then you need to rethink if you are financially ready for the five years of financial hardship we have to look forward to.
just keep calling them up, and nag. it will work out.
