Depression
Ive been having a hard time recently and had to go to the doctor who said I was having a severe depression and must take antidepressives. I am a little worried that at my age something like this could be a killer if I want to seek a career as a medical doctor, or anything in the medical field. Does anyone know anything about this?

Don't sweat it chief, depression is a non-issue nowadays. Everyone gets depressed sometime, it's not something to be worried about and it's certainly not going to harm your career prospects.
If you were super concerned about it then once you're over the rough patch you could have a little chat with your GP about getting the entry removed. It's not something you could demand as technically they're not obligated to do it, but most are quite understanding and I don't think it would be out of the question.

Hi there, don't worry - I would imagine the medical schools would like to see that you sought out the appropriate help.. if I were them I'd be more concerned about the applicants who might be hiding depression and not getting the right Tx. Best of luck with the application and like jolt says have a chat with your GP. He might even help you with your application process lol

Don't worry. If you declare it on your ucas form they will ask you to provide a fitness to practice report from your doctor. Its not a big deal these days but I know you must be worried about the stigma attached to it. They cannot discriminate against you because of a genuine illness!

Glasgow....interviewed 22/02 UNCONDITIONAL!!!

Discrimination is alive and well. Don't mistake the policy for the reality.
Consider though, aside from whether or not you are discriminated against, directly or indirectly, consciously or not, whether it would be a better time for you to start when you are well.

Hi,
Go see your GP - describe your concerns. A GP was once a Medical Student, too...
