And is it normal for parents to pay? If so how many years to most parents pay?

And how many hours do most have free? What sort of jobs do most students get? Shops/Clubs/Hospitals?

I'm not sure but I think fees are in the region of 3300 for the initial years (with means tested bursuary) for school leavers. Most are then eligible for some student loan. I think the NHS pays fees and gives some financial support in the final years of the course. Grads get a financially better package cos we only pay fees in first year, then NHS pays and provides some bursuary in years 2-4 (on GEP courses).

Mate, I don't understand half these questions. There are no clear cut answers to these questions.

Pay for what? Fees? Living costs? Rent? Food? Life?

Whether or not a parent pays fees will depnd on whether or not they have a degree, thier age, their partner's income, possibly their parents' income etc.

As for free time, it depends on how much work they want to do and will vary from year to year and course to course.

A lot of students do bar work/HCA work/stuff like that. There are often paid part-time jobs in GP surgeries for students. To be honest though none of these pay a huge amount.

Sorry if i wasn't very clear. What terms are most busy which would mean it would be unlikely to get a job in them?

Again, totally depends on which medical school.

Whoever mentioned earning 11 pounds an hour as a HCA is dreaming! It's more like 13,500 per annum, and it works out around 8 pounds an hour I think. You can get paid more if you work for an agency rather than the NHS, but you will be hard pushed to do that unless you have experience. There are very few entry level jobs which would pay the required 18 000 a year or over, the only thing I would suggest would be to consider switching to IT in the NHS, as there are plenty of technical positions there which should pay above that level.

I would recommend the excellent NHS Jobs website - It allows you to apply for multiple jobs at once. After I finished my degree I applied for 14 jobs with it, offered 4 interviews, only did 2 of them and got offered 2 jobs - the interviews were for an HCA and an admin job. I took the admin job as it paid better with better conditions (plus better location). I tried to keep it up when I started GEP but even with only 6h a week (they were v flexible!) I couldn't manage it as the first year was so busy.I did towards the end of the year however start a GP-note-summarising job for £9ph, I think quite a few of the students were doing that sort of job. Lots of cups of tea and biscuits!

That's just my experience though, don't know if it's of any help. Good luck!

Zubr- how much med school costs will depend on your particular situation. For instance, in my first degree my parents didn't give me any money and I worked all the way through to finance it, whereas some students had everything paid by their parents (stupid in my opinion!).
