It is my first attempt this year. I decided at the start that I would try again next year if I didn't get in. I have to admit that I really admire those of you who are re-applicants now that I realise how much emotional energy goes into each application cycle!! I'm so relieved to have an offer (Barts 5-year), better make sure I get my B in AS Biology...

This is my third application which I think is going down the drain due to botched up UKCAT and BMAT. I've always said that it would be 'three strikes and out', although at times during this application cycle I've said I'd go for cheeky fourth time. I think with me I'll never know whether I was even good enough for medicine until I sort out my admissions tests (failed to pass the 600 mark in all three attempts), because every other part of my application, according to friends, family and tutors, are fine.
I don't think it's wise (and I don't have the strength) to bulldoze myself through yet another UCAS cycle next October (if applicable). I think I'd put medicine on the back burner for 3-4 years and see how I feel in the future. I still feel I have a bit of 'growing up' to do anyway. My past failures may ultimately be a sign that medicine, although I admire the profession dearly, may not be for me. We'll see.

I haven't wanted to think about it. I guess at some point i'll have to find myself an alternative career, i can't do the job i'm doing for the rest of my life! I think i've maybe got one more application in me and then i'm out.

I will probably do a masters somewhere and re-apply. I know that some unis prefer candidates with completed degrees, but does anyone know if an Msc will help much?? I won't have a completed Msc, but I'll be applying in the same year, so it can be mentioned in my PS...

Well Iam already preparing myself for the next yr and this time I want to do it properly
My current application was a total craziness. A friend told me that I can apply in UK as a mature student so I tried to complete everything within 1 month: IELTS, UKCAT, trying to find out if my MSc is valid in UK and trying to figure out which Unis should I choose, writing my PS over the weekend etc. I didnt do much voluntary work either. But Im still happy I applied, at least I have seen how it all looks like. Doing A levels in Biology its also not a waste of time. Even If I wont get a place its still useful for me to have it.
Like most of you Im also giving myself 3 chances.

I don't know what the official figures are with regard to pass rates, but as far as doctors' evaluations go, every doctor that I've spoken to that has taught medical students has told me that they find mature students to be generally "better" than school leavers

Most of them tend to say it's primarily due to the attitude and work ethic. Matures tend to be more dedicated and take a more "mature" approach to work, since they've had to make a bigger sacrifice and commitment
