Urgent any arts grads at Durham Campus
After speaking to Newcastle admissions was told it did not make a difference as both had same admissions criteria so put down E. Have been allocated Durham but now worried as I'm an arts grad...

Read this:
School of Medicine and Health : Admissions - Durham University
It clearly states that accept a 2:1 in any degree discipline.

Hi Manana
Thanks so much for that. I was very careful to make sure I fitted Newcastle's grad criteria ...

I'm on the GEP course, but recently we had a joint lecture with the 2nd years, and I have to say the Durham group stood out as being much more diverse that the Newcastle 2nd years (we all join together next year)
A lecturer of ours commented that Durham had a widening participation approach which meant that they had more matures and non-std on their course... so I think you have the better option!
Oh, and on our GEP there is a VERY wide variety of backgrounds - including philosophy, history and religious studies.

There are Arts grads here at Durham. The admissions policy was changed recently to reflect anyone who has at least a 2.1 in any degree subject, in line with Newcastle. Just ensure you get a UKCAT about 620 and you'll be fine.
In relation to the above comment, there is a good number of graduates here at Durham (in excess of 30%) of the intake this year. Although not directly to do with the wider participation! It just appears more graduate perfer Durham then Newcastle, I think it more that graduate has already done the party thing as such.Last edited by DigitalMythic; 14-11-2009 at 12:16 AM.

Hello all
I'm also a mature (I think probably very mature on a sliding scale) BA graduate who has applied to Durham this year.
Not sure how to add the autosig everyone seems to have, but I basically have:
1st class degree in Business Management
PG Dip in Human Resource Management
Scored 675 in UKCAT
I was called for interview with a couple of days notice back in November and at the time there was little feedback on the forums so despite being told the interviewers would not have seen my personal statement, I still prepared myself for what I perceived as the inevitable 'why medicine now?' questions and 'why not nursing?' etc when of course none of these came up. Needless to say I felt a bit shell shocked afterwards as it's not the kind of interview you can really prepare for.
How did you find your interview js-g? Hope all went well.
I feel like I've been waiting for ever now and just hope we don't have to wait until April as was suggested on another thread.
I too applied to Durham after researching schools that applied 'widening access' policies and seemed to have a larger proportion of mature students so very encouraging so far, that there seem to be a few of us who have applied this year too. It's definitely my no.1 choice and will be very reassuring (if fortunate enough to be accepted) to study with a peer group that does have some more mature grads with arts backgrounds...safety in numbers!
Best of luck everyone...
btw out of interest does anyone know rough dates that term would be due to start - Sept / Oct?
