Oldies for 2010
I've been encouraged by reading the "Oldies" thread from last year, so thought we should have one for over-30's applying now to start in 2010.
I'm 36 and graduated in Chemistry back in 1995. I've wanted to be a doctor for years but thought I had missed the boat, and now I realise its not too late so am going for it! I'm waiting until I've done my UKCAT to finalise which universities to apply to.
So who else is out there?

I'm 32, graduated in Physics in 1999 after failing to secure a place for medicine in 1996. Always suppressed the desire until beginning of 2009 as the thumping drum got deafening.
2011 Applications:
Warwick (GEP) - Acknowledged
King's (GPEP) - Acknowledged
SGUL (GEP) - Acknowledged
Peninsula (5 year) - Acknowledged
UKCAT: 732.5
GAMSAT: 72 (67, 69, 76)
2010 Applications:
Warwick: Interview - Rejected
Bart's 5 year: Withdrew
King's GPEP: Offer for 5 year (declined)
Cardiff 5 year: Interviewed - Rejected
Degree: 1st, Physics

I'm 33 and applying for a second time this year after being rejected last year.
I feel a bit of a pretender only discovering medicine a year and a bit ago. I'm absolutely determined to do it now but I'm going to see if I can save having to move my family and may only apply to Bristol (where I live) again this year... really in two minds.
Cheers
Vicky--
Second year at Bristol and *loving* it.
Wife, mother (4 and 2 years old) and Med Student - yay!

Hi another one here...
First timer- GAMSAT on the 18th, followed by UKCAT.
I'm 33 and I've been an allied health professional for years.
Medicine now, after having a baby and realising that I didn't want to go back to my old job.
So, going for it... with a todler in hand (and a big mortgage in the other!), and it needs to be LDN (partner's work).
All the best.

Another old woman sending all the best. I graduated in 1995 with a degree in history and start on the Nottingham GEM course next week. It is the most exciting thing I have ever undertaken (barring the children of course) and my fingers are crossed that you get everything you want.
Sam
Mum of two and second year GEM

I suppose I JUST come under the oldies section at 30
I graduated with a Computer Science Degree back in 2001 and now work with a broadcaster. I have always been interested in medicine but since having a daughter with medical problems I realised how much I want to do this. She is my inspiration;'). Hoping to get in Notts 2010
best of luck to anyone GAMSATTING next week and congrats and good luck to those of you who start next week!

Hi, I'm 29 and this is my second time round. Took GAMSAT last year and got an interview at SGUL... but didn't get anything else other than a rejection

I'm starting Access to Medicine course on Monday so I can apply to BSMS. Going to have another crack at the GAMSAT next Friday, but would prefer BSMS as I live in Brighton and had a baby 5 months ago so would like to be closer to home.
Graduated in 2003 with a degree in banking and have worked in finance.
Good luck to everyone for 2010 entry and to everyone taking GAMSAT next Friday!

I'm definitely an oldie at 38... I start at UCL on 28th September and I am massively excited about it. I applied to (and got offers from) Barts and Kings last year as well, all A100 courses.
If anyone wants their PS looking at I've got some time over the next fortnight. Going to be busy after that ;-)I'm finally giving myself a signature: UCL 2009!!

Hi everyone
Great to meet other oldies who are applying for 2010. Any more out there?
Thanks as well to those of you starting your courses this year for your encouragement – how exciting, hope it all goes well! Can I ask, how much notice did you usually get before interviews? Do you always get notification online in UCAS or do you hear by letter from the University? My job requires me to spend large chunks of time overseas so I’ll have to fly back for interviews, so thinking through the logistics!
Latestarter –I’d seen some of your posts when browsing this forum occasionally over the past few years and was so pleased when you got your offer from Newcastle – your story has inspired me that it is possible! How are you getting on so far?
Georgiegirl – I’ve sent you a PM.
Good luck to everyone getting your applications together….
Elise
