NHS bursary and student loan question (esp to parents)

Hi, i've read a few messages about confusion over maintanance loans and tution fee loans. i've got a quick question about the NHS bursary. I'm not entitled to the complete bursary (almost) so i applied for a maintanance loan to top it up and have received written communication saying i'll get the max loan available ie combined total is way more than i expected. Has this happened to any one else on here. I have a family so any extra money is really useful but i wouldn't want to spend it only to find it's an error and student loans want the money back.
    Thanks for any advice.

As far as I know once you are eligible for the bursary (even if they give you less than the max, even if they give you nothing at all), then you should only get the non-means tested part of the student loan, the basic £3000 or so.
I got much less when on the bursary and so did investigate getting more help from student loans but always run up against a brick wall with it. If you check it out with them and they've assessed you properly please do let me know, the last year has been a nightmare financially! Could have done with the extra help from student loans!
