Over25's Joining 5year medical course
Hi there,
This might sound a little silly but I'm nervous as a 28 year old graduate joining a 5year course. How have others of a similar age fitted into a group that the majority are a decade younger than them?? Can anyone share there thoughts and experiences, this would be much appreciated.
Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.. Forget about the one's who don't.
Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it!!

I was 36 when I started the five year course ... believe me, you won't even think about it after the first few hours! There is nothing like a common bond to break the age barrier. The only time it's hit home is when my consultant on a rotation is younger than me (by a couple of years at the most), then it does feel a little strange - but we all have a different journey and I tend to just shrug my shoulders and get on with it.
Best decision I ever made.
Have fun

Yep, I'm going to be 25 when I start (nearly 26) and I'm quite excited about it.
Especially now I look back at how I was when I was 18 - now I'm confident and have a good self esteem having lost loads of weight, I've got experience of the real world, will be in a fairly good financial position and have all of the life skills (like how to run a house) that I never had at 18. Above all I have the maturity to cope that I never had at 18.
So bring it on! HYMS 2010, can't wait!
Yeah, so I'll be 30 before I qualify, but what's the big deal? I wasn't planning on marriage and kids before 35 anyway, before I even thought about doing medicine!HYMS (York) - Second year

28! You're still young
There were people in their 30s 40s, 50s and a lady in her 60s in my first degree (E&EE). There were no incidences of ageism.Signatures are for losers!

I'm 25 and will start in Sept and am really looking forward to it! The only thing which worries me is money, I have enough for this year (im taking it a year at a time

I'll be 24 a week before I start - tbh it is an issue for me. In my first degree I remember thinking all the older students were a little weird lol - maybe that was just me. So now its my turn!
I guess the major issue I have is some of the 18/19 years olds having a negative opinion of why we oldies took that bit longer to gain entry. I certainly couldn't have hoped for a place back when I did my alevels - I was bottom of my class in most subjects lol.
