MaTURE STUDENT ENTRY HELP
Hi guys, i have a some questions about entry requirements into UK medical schools, I am a mature student who has recently moved to this country from Ireland and would like to go to medical school here, I was thinking I would do the A levels at night for the next few years and apply then, with good results in these exams should that be enough to meet entry requirements to the UK schools?
thanks
Peter

You also need to have work experience and volunteer work to show your interest and understanding for the career. Contact the schools that interest you to make certain you will meet their requirements.

The entrance requirements vary considerably between institutions, as ihm says, it's best to contact the schools direct or have a read through their websites.
If you are a graduate: some medical schools only allow graduates to apply through their graduate streams (A101 or A102) in which case there may be stipulations about your undergraduate degree.
All medical schools like to see a good level work experience or volunteering in a healthcare setting (SGUL for example grades applicants on level of work exp, the highest grade given to applicants with other 12 months of experience in a variety of settings) so I would begin looking into that now. You will also need to sit UKCAT, BMAT or GAMSAT depending on where you apply.
If you are not a graduate it might also be worth looking into an access to medicine course instead of A levels (the one offered by COWA seems to be popular, although not a night class and competition for places is high)
Good luck! It seems daunting to begin with but once you get the ball rolling it's not so bad.

I would take the Access to medicine course instead of A Levels. It's only one year as opposed to two years or even longer part time.

check out Medschoolsonline - A Guide to Getting into Medical School in the UK as a good starting point...
also, what qualifications do you already hold, they may well meet the entry criteria already??
