Advice needed on A Level For medicine

Hi, i am 16 and just joined this forum looks very friendly,

I needed help on selecting my A level subject for studying medicine in Uni, but i could not get in Additional Science GCSE (just because of being in low grounp for math!) which means i cant take biology or chemistry or physics in collage, which i need, just been reading around the forum and found a medicine course A104 (medicine with foundation year) i am hoping to do that, but have no clue what to do in collage in ordar to enter for Medicine A104, At the moment i am doing Additional Applied Science, well my predicted grades are A for science (its double award science) C for maths And B for english,
Please let me know what subjest i should study in ordar to enter Medicine A104

    Thanks

For A104 you take no sciences at A level at all, unless you wanted to do Psychology. If you take sciences, you're automatically disqualified from A104 entry at most places. If this is what you're intending, just pick three rigorous academic subjects like history, geography, english, languages, maths, philosophy or RS. You still have to get As in them though.
There are several A104s at Keele, Bristol, Dundee, King's, UEA, Cardiff, Manchester and Southampton and Bradford [clinical sciences with a link into Leeds]. Given that you still have A level choices in front of you though, it's not the route that I would recommend as there are fewer places available and you limit your options a bit.
Could end up at any one of these by 2010:
King's College London. That'd be for 5 years.
Hull or York. Again, this would be for half a decade.
Leeds. I imagine that it's not quite five years actually, but that's the general idea.
Cambridge. The idea here is that you spend three years and nine months becoming a doctor. That really is quite a bit less than 4 years.

Might even end up at Oxford. I threw in PPP as a long shot. I like Biology that much.

Chemistry is the main one they want and Biology usually as well. You don't need all three, except for Oxbridge.

As far as i know you do not need to have done an gcse to do an a-level in anything - although your school may have it as a policy. If you're good enough to get AAB in a combination of 2 or more sciences, then you should be fine for the main course.
Fresher medic*, doesn't know any medicine. Slight issue.¬

Well i am doing my gsce currently in yr 11, well in yr 11 there are two science course which student could choose additional & additional applied science, both are different additional applied means student do not wish to carry on with science after GCSE, and additional is if they want to take science in A level. Couldnt get into additional as they only had 60 spaces out of the WHOLE year, so the competition was mad.

I've always felt that anyone wishing to study Medicine surely must be studying A level Biology, it's the closest thing to medicine us college students have and as an admissions tutor I would find it strange if an applicant wasn't studying it.

Still I understand the importance placed on Chemistry. If you enjoy one of the humanities I definitely advise taking it on to A level, UCL really like applicants who are different to the 3 sciences and maths group. Then again I've heard people say Oxbridge like that kind of applicant so...

If you're going to be studying it for 2 years try to make sure it's something you like.
