post grad medicine graduates advice plz!!
hi,
I have applied for medicine and as an alternative choice i was thinking of another science course.
i wanted advice from graduates applying for medicine what courses would be good to get on to medicine. On interest basis i like 'neuroscience' and would want to do that, but i am not sure how that would prove when applying for medicine as a graduate?
your reply would be very helpful
thanks
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!

Hi Rosemay
I'm confused. Are you applying for graduate entry medicine? What's your background?

hi
thanks for the reply
im sorry i confused it a little
ive done access to medicine course and currently im applying for the 5 year medicine degree 2009. basically i want to fill in my 5th choice on UCAS which as you know is non medicine course.
i was thinking if i dont get my place this time on medicine 5 year then i still want to do medicine in the future as a graduate on the 4 year fast track programme.
i would just like some advice from graduates doing medicine and the courses you took to get on to medicine. personally im interested in neuroscience but dont know if it will be of beneficial when applyingfor medicine in the future. i need to know now so i can put it down for september.
hope its clear
thanks!

If you have good grades in your access course, don't bother putting a 5th choice. REAPPLY if you dont get in. Why waste money firstly an access course to medicine, and then on a degree you don't want. If you really feel the need to put a 5th for grad med neuroscience is fine. Any biological science is acceptable.

I agree with Dr Thor. If your access grades are fab then I shouldn't worry.
Tbh I don't know much about access courses and appling for 5 year medicine.
My biggest concern in this situation is tailoring your personal statement. Medicine won't take you if you talk about wanting to do neuroscience and vice versa I assume..
I studied Orthoptics, but I didn't take this course with a view to do anything other than be an Orthoptist! As Dr Thor mentioned, neuroscience, as any other bio science degree is appropraite for grad entry medicine.
Good Luck

I agree. If you don't get in this year then work for a year and then re-apply. If unsuccessful on the second round then maybe re-consider other degrees. Remember ATM applicants are often considered later in the application cycle as you only started the course a few months ago, so don't give up hope. No news is good news!
